"The Inevitability of Wildfires: Fire Ecology and Forest Management"
Synopsis: Anna Sala will focus on fire as a natural disturbance and how organisms adapt in fire-prone ecosystems. She also will explore the benefits of fire as a natural disturbance, with a special emphasis on ponderosa pine forests.
Anna Sala is a professor of plant biology in UM’s Division of Biological Sciences and an adjunct professor in the W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation. Her research throughout her career has focused on the physiological ecology of plants in diverse systems, spanning from the Artic to the desert. Her current research at UM focuses on tree responses to drought, beetles and fire.
