The University of Montana Alumni Association is pleased to announce that the much-loved Homecoming Parade will return this fall on Saturday, Oct. 12.
We are seeking a highly organized and motivated individual(s) to plan all logistics for the largest parade in western Montana with more than 120 entries and an estimated 7,000 spectators in downtown Missoula and University neighborhoods.
Key tasks include but are not limited to:
- Work with the City of Missoula and State of Montana officials to secure the proper permits and day-of street closures.
- Work with construction, security and law enforcement personnel on rental coordination, parade security and crowd control.
- Coordinate with local volunteers and community groups on their day-of assignments.
- Organize parade entries and create a lineup. Communicate details to all registrants and provided timely updates to UMAA staff for the parade webpage.
- Work with UMAA staff to develop the script for parade announcers.
- Day-of responsibilities: liaising with parade volunteers, assisting with participation direction, ensuring proper barricading is in place, coordinating with City and UM police on traffic flow, working with parade judges to record scoring and other duties as assigned.
- Event responsibilities may change or be added as necessary
The parade coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all the above tasks are done in a timely fashion and a professional manner.
The parade coordinator will work closely with several key stakeholders, community members, University and Alumni personnel to deliver a safe, impactful, vibrant and memorable 2024 Homecoming Parade.
Working hours are flexible but will include week-of office hours to answer/return parade-related calls and prepare printed materials. The coordinator is expected to be on-site from staging to clean up on the day of the parade. Estimated hours are roughly 60 to 75 hours total and the compensation is $2,000.
