CRITERIA

The President Royce Engstrom Endowed Prize in University Citizenship recognizes alumni who have graduated within the last decade and is awarded to individuals who, as a student, have contributed in a significant way to the betterment of the University and who have remained an exemplary ambassador of the University through distinguished professional and societal service.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Grizzly of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award:
    The President Royce Engstrom Endowed Prize in University Citizenship is awarded to the highest-scoring recipient of the Grizzly of the Last Decade (GOLD) award. The GOLD award recognizes University of Montana alumni who have graduated within the past ten years and have demonstrated outstanding commitment to citizenship, leadership and service.
  2. Nomination and Review Process:
    • Nominations: Nominations for the GOLD award are accepted annually and can be submitted by alumni, faculty, staff or other members of the University of Montana community.
    • Review Committee: The UM Alumni Association Board of Directors Recognition Committee is responsible for reviewing all nominations. This committee thoroughly evaluates each nominee's contributions to citizenship, leadership and service, as well as their overall impact on the University of Montana and the broader community.
    • Scoring: The Recognition Committee scores the nominations based on the predetermined criteria that emphasizes the nominee's commitment to the values of the University of Montana.
  3. Selection of the President Royce Engstrom Endowed Prize Recipient:
    • After the scoring process is completed, the highest-scoring nominee among the GOLD award recipients is selected as the recipient of the President Royce Engstrom Endowed Prize in University Citizenship.
    • This prize is awarded to the individual who exemplifies the highest standard of university citizenship, in accordance with the criteria outlined above, reflecting the values and legacy of President Royce Engstrom's leadership and service to the University of Montana.

AWARD PRESENTATION

The President Royce Engstrom Endowed Prize in University Citizenship is presented annually during the UM Alumni Association's awards ceremony, alongside the presentation of the GOLD awards.

This selection process ensures that the recipient of the President Royce Engstrom Endowed Prize is a distinguished alumnus or alumna who has made significant contributions to the University of Montana and is an exemplary ambassador of the University.
